Courage is All You Need
I have had this project idea forever. Not really forever, but since my Toastmasters days. The working title is A Role Model A Day. I am still not entirely sure what it is, though. As part of figuring that out, I have started collecting a small database of role models, with the loose definition that a role model is someone who has done something great and/or good. The database currently consists of 114 role models. It is a bit U.S./Europe-centric since I started by adding people off the top of my head. In other words, its first bias is my own heroes. I have since asked for help expanding it geographically.
Anyhow. The number one virtue/feature of this very scientifically collected database of role models is…
COURAGE
That’s it folks. Maybe I can close the project here already. That’s all you need if you want to leave a legacy in this world. Courage.
If we look at the top 3, we get:
- Courage (45%)
- Discipline (33%)
- Curiosity (31%)
And the cumulative coverage curve shows that 80% of the role models have at least one of these top three virtues.
My conclusion is that Courage gets you started. Discipline keeps you going. Curiosity changes your direction now and then, into the unknown, where Courage has to take Curiosity by the hand.
As simple as that. Courage is ^(almost) all you need.
